Charity Letter
With the holiday season now upon us, it is a time for all of us to reflect on how much we must be thankful for, despite Covid-19! As we have done during the past nine years, in lieu of client gifts, we pick four charities and donate $500.00 to each one. For 2020, the donations are being sent to the following organizations:
1. Food Bank for New York City
For 36 years Food Bank for NYC has been the city’s largest hunger relief organization, with a multifaceted approach that provides free meals, builds capacity, and raises awareness. Since mid-March --while 40% of the other food banks halted services over the coronavirus lockdown--Food Bank kept going and has distributed almost 50 million meals via drive-thru pantries, seniors-only hours, and home deliveries.
2. Community Food Bank of New Jersey
We are the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization. We fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. We engage, educate, and empower all sectors of society in the battle. Working together with volunteers, donors and our many partners, we work to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with Food, Help and Hope.

3. The Campaign Against Hunger
When we were founded in 1998 as a small pantry operating out of a church basement, our clients were primarily located in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Over the past twenty years, however, our organization has expanded in many ways. The once small basement pantry has become a SuperPantry emporium. Thanks to our Far Rock Urban Agro-Ecological Center and our Mobile Pantry, we now impact the lives of thousands in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx each month. We now offer hundreds of nutrition education classes, workshops, and cooking demonstrations each year for our clients. The Green Teens internship program has played an integral role in the lives of young adults in Brooklyn and Far Rockaway. And lastly, we now offer a suite of social services, including SNAP registration, health insurance enrollment, tax filing preparation, and much more.

4. The Bowery Mission
Founded in 1879 on New York’s original skid row, The Bowery Mission is a faith-based organization that aims to help people caught in the cycle of poverty and homelessness. The organization provides meals, medical services, and access to showers. The venerable aid mission has long been a presence in downtown NYC; its iconic red doors have remained open to the homeless and hungry during the pandemic.
